ExxonMobil Guyana recently acquired full ownership of the FPSO Prosperity from SBM Offshore in a strategic move valued at $1.23 billion. Originally leased from SBM Offshore since November 2023, the Prosperity has been producing around 220,000 barrels per day at the Payara field within the Stabroek Block. ExxonMobil holds a 45% interest in this block, partnered with Hess Corporation (30%) and CNOOC (25%). The acquisition allows Exxon to solidify its production operations while SBM will continue to manage operations and maintenance until 2033 under a long-term contract.
The Prosperity joins other FPSOs in Exxon’s fleet, including Liza Unity and Liza Destiny, all part of Exxon’s expanding footprint in Guyana’s offshore oil sector. This purchase helps SBM Offshore reduce its net debt, allocating $980 million from the proceeds to settle project financing.
